2. How are you trying to open them? You'll need to place them with Illustrator's other swatches. Depending on your version of Illustrator, this location can vary.

3. Hi, I cannot open this file either. It starts out as a .ai file, then after downloading, somehow switches to a .ps. I've had a programmer try as well with no luck. Can you help?

5. I couldn't get the files to work either. But I was able to get the colors from the GIF image of the swatches palette.

6. Your file will not open. It says it is an "ai" file but when you save it, it is a "ps" file. What is a "ps" file???.

7. That is SO strange.

A .ps file is a PostScript file; Illustrator .ai, .eps, and any .pdf file are all written in the PostScript programming language. Indeed, .eps stands for Encapsulated PostScript.

Still, the files SHOULD work. They work for others I've talked to--everyone from Mac OS 9 and OS X to Windows 98, 2000, and XP.

Try manually opening the file in Illustrator and resaving it as an .ai.

Have you tried downloading the .zip file?

All I can think is that the .ai is somehow getting corrupted during the FTP transfer, which is not as uncommon as one might think. At Adobe Tech Support the agents frequently deal with the corruption of uncompressed files sent via e-mail or FTP as a result of the inherent nature of such transfers and their attendant clients.

8. Just a quick note - the link to the .zip file is actually a link to the .ai file. I'm looking to download the .zip, but will grab the colors from the gif you have for now :)

9. Doh! I've mucked with this post so many times trying to fix it for people that a genuine typo doesn't surprise me.

14. The links are fixed, everyone. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I had the files hosted on a file server I've owned and had online without interruption for 9 years. Last month the company I employed to host the server instituted a ridicilous new policy to which I--and many other Internet professionals--refused to adhere. Despite the company's assurance that our contracts would serve out their terms (mine until 4 February), the company elected to terminate services early, without warning. That was last week.

Instantly the download links for the above and several other files went offline.

As I was on the road, teaching InDesign and Illustrator classes, I couldn't do much about the problem. The server was wiped, and the original files were locked away in my DVD backup library, in a safety deposit box to which my assistant doesn't have access.

While moving the domain to a host with a solid reputation was easily accomplished from my hotel room, getting the files uploaded to the new server had to wait until I traveled home and got to the bank. That was this morning (Pacific Time).

Now the files are restored, and I will travel with copies on one of my laptops just in case.

17. I tried downloading all three files without success and keep getting this error:

"Could no open 2005spring.eps because the source rectangle is empty."

This happens with the .ai file too. What should I try next? I use Photoshop. Would you have a working file that you can e-mail to me?

Damn! This is truly vexing.

I know people are successfully downloading and using these files. I hear from them, and I've stood in various classrooms and offices watching Mac and Windows-based designers download and use these files.

Give me until tomorrow, and I'll upload a Photoshop .ACO swatches file, which I will also e-mail to Kathy. At least then the Photoshop users will have the ability to make use of the colors.

If you cannot use any of the three files in Illustrator, please provide me with the following information:

Your operating system and version (i.e. Mac Panther, Mac Tiger; Windows XP SP2, Windows 98SE; etc.)

The name and version of the program(s) in which you've tried to open the files (i.e. Illustrator CS, Freehand MX, etc.)

Any error or alert message that appears when you try.

I really do want everyone to access to the files. Though it seems only a few are having difficulty doing that, I want to figure out and solve the problem. Help me help you.

19. We are not able to open the "Spring 2005 colors" in any file format. Is it possible someone can please send the open file to us via e mail. The file in MS Word format would be ideal, otherwise, in Adobe.
