Looks like Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns and the mighty Maus graphic novel by Spiegelman aren't the only well known graphic novels to be introduced in college courses. Recent additions include Satrapi's "Persepolis" at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Rest of the article doesn't really cover novels in the classroom nor does it talk about the 'popular comices' outside of their influences in Hollywood. A great read to educate yourself on the various critically acclaimed graphic novels out there.
