I used QuarkXPress briefly in 2000 before heading over to PageMaker
6.5 and subsequently InDesign. It's surprising though, no matter how many times I say QuarkXPress is dead, there will
be a good number of individuals who comes back to me stating otherwise. So even though Quark just shot itself in the
foot with their new logo and identity (to be explained below), I'll refrain from making the claim that Quark is dead
like the dodo (though I for one moved on long ago, then again I didn't invest too much like most companies out
there).
So at first glance, nifty, a stylized 'Q', how very clean and simple. The logo was designed by SicolaMartin, a
division of Young & Rubicam Brands. As for the yellow green color, Pantone actually dubbed their Pantone 368 as
"Quark Green." According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, renowned color
psychologist, and author of five books on color, the chosen green is a symbol of growth and is invigorating and
revitalizing breathing new life into a brand, yada yada yada…
Too bad no one at Quark or Young & Rubicam Brands did their research. Say hello to potential litigation by the Scottish Arts Council. Check out their lowercase 'a'. Been there done that…

Update: Check Speak Up for even more examples of the circle with a square corner element logo. And also Artworkers and DereksWorld.
