Google Earth used to find Roman ruins

google ruins

While browsing the planet with Google's Earth and Maps services, an Italian programmer named Mori has discovered ruins of a Roman villa. Studying the area around his home town of Sorbolo, near Parma, he noticed a 500 meter long oval, shaded region indicative of the meander of an ancient river. Nearby is where Mori then noticed 'unusual rectangular shadows,' which prompted him to contact archaeologists and experts at the National Archaeological Museum of Parma for confirmation.

No word on whether this cold be the first case of archaeology practiced in one's pajamas.
