Isn't it strange how times have changed? A few years ago, if someone had mentioned 'Subway Art' I would have
immediately thought of graffiti and even now I still do. I have a particular fondness for the series of pieces on the B
and D line coming into Brooklyn from Manhattan. I think it was right after the bridge before you arrived at the Grand
Street station. Some talented and obviously prolific artist was able to create an animation, almost like a picture
story book. When you passed by in a train, the steel columns separated the slides, turning the series into a pretty
sweet animation.
Anyhow, the following link really has nothing to do with my memory above. The art featured in this collection is
actually commissioned work. None of the risky, high adrenaline tags or graffiti art normally associated with our mighty
fine underground transport. I particularly like Life Underground
by Otterness, I swear his work is also on display near Times Square at the Hilton Hotel.
