Looks like I'm a day too late in sharing this site with you all given the number of track backs I see, have no idea how I missed it on BoingBoing. You may have seen the technical Illustrator pieces in the past such as Hulsey's work but I never ever fathomed creating photo-realistic images of people! Take a look for yourself and check out the mind blowing work done by the Illustrator artists. From afar you can't tell the difference, it's only when you look up close and see the various shapes they used to create the different body parts, only then are you able to discern the difference (hard borders between the different shapes). For example, check out the Jolie piece done by Forrest. The eyes, nose and lips are near perfect, the only way you can tell it's a drawing is the jawline and the ear... really amazing stuff.Photo-realistic Illustrator drawings of people

6. Although I can appreciate the pure beauty of something like this, I don't understand this. Why spend all the crazy time and effort on doing an illustration like this when a photograph will suffice and take a lot less time.

13. I recently completed an 18 month stint doing nascar related images...all custom designed visuals usually w/ the sponsor's car views (bazzillions of warped decals) and the likeness of the driver, etc...Although I had started with the ability to create realistic styled illustrations...I have had the opportunity to work under very tight deasdlines w/o sacrificing quality...and the # of little tricks that have become 2nd nature at this point have basically transformed the way I view and use the programs now...Many of the designs ended up screenprinted by an equally competent printer...I'm as amazed by the capability of pushing ink thru a series of 12+ screens to reproduce artwork that has more qualities than any 4-color process work, than I am w/ the software advancements...but then it all comes back to the true artist...which is what I've re-learned (more strongly than ever)...regardless of how good a team or person may become tehnically, Only an artist...(a real artist) can inspire and motivate with the software and hardware at hand...most things can be taught... even how to copy another's style can be taught, but delivering CREATIVE & EFFECTIVE, ORIGINAL Images cannot be taught...or learned...

14. I do question why this is drawn in 2d instead of creating a photorealistic model in 3d. Some of the submitted imagesshow a lack of effort in the details, whichwould have beeneasier ofthe whol thing was modeled in 3d and rendered. Anyway, for Illustrator design these files absolutely stand out, my compliments!
15. I just wanted to add one last comment that I'd left out regarding Illustrator's mesh & thee highlighted artists...As I stated, although, I've done a great deal of realistic illustration, commercially, I'm not much of a realists' fan and much more intrigued by what's being done with the advancements in digital photography & image editing program useage...HOWEVER, illustrator's mesh is by far one of the most difficult tools to master (or even use for that matter)...the majority of 'artists' using these programs will (if exposed to the mesh filter) steer clear of the mesh after a first attempt or two...In view of this, I offer my sincere admiration to anyone who struggles through this area of illustrator, but I'm in a state of complete 'wow' at the results & the images that these artists have 'birthed' especially with the ultra-high quality results...Truly amazing...

1. Reminds me of Yukio Miyamoto and some of his insane work with objects (one that sticks out in my mind is a french horn with numerous reflections, etc.)
The raster and vector world gets closer every day, eh?
